It's a boy — and a girl — for Jennifer Lopez and husband and co-star Marc Anthony.
Under intense security, the
platinum-selling pair became parents early today with the arrival of
twins: their daughter was delivered at 12:12 a.m., followed 11 minutes
later by their son, according to People magazine.
"Jennifer and
Marc are thrilled, delighted and over the moon," Lopez manager Simon
Fields told the mag. The girl weighed in at 5 pounds, 7 ounces, while
her brother weighed 6 pounds.
People magazine, which broke the
story on its Web site early today, is also thrilled. After a lengthy
bidding war, the magazine won the rights to print the first photos of
the Lopez-Anthony family, shelling out a record-breaking $6 million.
The family will do a series of TV interviews after the photos are published and OK! magazine has secured the international rights.
This birth is the first for Lopez, while Best-selling crooner
Anthony has three children from previous relationships.
The
much-rumored pregnancy was confirmed in November by Lopez, who
announced she was in a family way after the last show on a joint tour
with Anthony.
"This is a special time in our lives," she told the
crowd in Miami. Lopez's dad, David, spilled the beans about twins
during a television interview earlier this month.
The 39-year-old
Lopez, a Bronx native, married fellow New Yorker Anthony in 2004 — her
third marriage, and his second. Anthony, 38, was previously wed to
former Miss Universe Dayanara Torres.
It wasn't J.Lo's first brush with celebrity romance — past relationships include Sean "P. Diddy" Combs and Ben Affleck.
Mom
and the babies are expected to head home early next week where the kids
will immediately be given the royal Lopez treatment. The proud parents
have reportedly commissioned a $120,000 luxury ocean-themed nursery at
their Long Island home with French-made cribs, hand-embroidered bedding
and 18-karat gilded chandeliers.
